Job summary

The Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Ai2) seeks a product-minded engineer to own the Asta platform and Semantic Scholar data stack. You will translate researcher workflows into prioritized specs for the engineering team and shape roadmaps that pair science with scalable tooling.

You will partner with researchers to balance reliability and features, drive adoption of new capabilities, and ensure governance and privacy considerations are integrated from the start.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of product management experience shipping developer-facing or researcher-facing products such as APIs, platforms, or tools built for technical users.
• Ability to translate ambiguous, research-driven needs into concrete engineering requirements and a sequenced roadmap.
• Experience partnering with an engineering team on a technical platform with day-to-day prioritization and execution.

Responsibilities

• Define Asta engineering requirements by working with Ai2 researchers to translate needs into clear specs for the engineering team.
• Help articulate trade-offs to guide the team toward high-impact priorities.
• Build and sequence the roadmap for Asta's agentic framework and tools to unlock scientific advancements.
• Create and run a continuous feedback loop between engineering and research to surface needs early.
• Drive adoption of Asta's tools among Ai2 researchers to run internal science on the platform.
• Project manage and drive execution across Asta engineering workstreams and track progress against the roadmap.
• Own the Semantic Scholar data platform end to end: data platform and public APIs.
• Own Ai2's benchmarking strategy for scientific agents and define evaluations to standardize internally and externally.
• Own regulatory and governance compliance for these products, including data access and privacy rights.
• Represent researcher perspective in engineering planning and vice versa.
• Contribute to how Ai2 does product management as a discipline.
