Job description

Big 5 Sporting Goods is looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the customer experience across our digital and omnichannel commerce ecosystem. Sporting goods retail is being reshaped by connected inventory, personalization, and AI-native shopping experiences, this role sits at the center of that shift for a brand with a strong store footprint and a growing digital business.

You will be responsible for the strategy, roadmap, and execution of experiences that connect our marketing, website, and in-store touchpoints into a single, seamless journey, from discovery and buy-online-pickup-in-store to fulfillment, and post-purchase. This is a strategy-forward role for a product leader who is equally comfortable framing a multi-year commerce vision for executives and getting into the details of an architecture review with engineering.

You will report directly to the Director of eCommerce and work closely with engineering, design, merchandising, marketing, store operations, and supply chain.

What You’ll Do
  • Set the strategy: Own the product strategy and roadmap for the omnichannel customer experience, translating business goals into a prioritized, outcome-driven plan.
  • Own the journey: Design and ship connected experiences from digital to in-store. Work across the full funnel from martech, search and discovery, product detail, cart and checkout, fulfillment, BOPIS/ship-from-store, and returns.
  • Shape the tech: Partner with engineering and architecture to make sound build-vs-buy and platform decisions across martech, commerce, search, OMS, and payments. Balance speed, cost, and long-term flexibility as we migrate to fully composable architecture.
  • Apply AI with judgment: Identify and deploy AI where it moves the needle, including personalization, conversational and visual search, recommendations, content generation, and operational efficiency. Execute with a clear view of the cost, data, and risk tradeoffs.
  • Be metrics-driven: Define the metrics that matter (conversion, AOV, repeat, margin, CSAT) and use experimentation and analytics to drive decisions and prove impact.
  • Lead cross-functionally: Align merchandising, marketing, store operations, supply chain, and technology stakeholders around a shared roadmap and clear tradeoffs.
  • Drive the business: Build the business case for major investments and present strategy, results, and recommendations to senior leadership.
What You’ll Bring
  • 7+ years in product management, with significant time owning eCommerce, digital retail, or omnichannel commerce products.
  • Broad, current knowledge of the commerce and omnichannel landscape. Including customer journeys, business models, and the platforms and technologies that power them (commerce platforms, search, CDP/personalization, OMS, fulfillment, payments, loyalty).
  • A sharp sense of modern technology architecture, composable/headless commerce, APIs and microservices, cloud, and data platforms. Be equipped to lead and engage in credible tradeoff discussions with engineering.
  • AI fluency: a practical, up-to-date understanding of how machine learning and generative AI apply to retail, and strong judgment about where they create real value versus hype.
  • Strong business and strategic acumen: You connect product decisions to revenue, margin, and customer lifetime value, and can build and defend a business case.
  • A track record of shipping high-impact products and driving measurable outcomes in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, be able to move fluently between executive strategy conversations and detailed technical and design discussions.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in specialty, big-box, or sporting goods retail.
  • Hands-on experience with BOPIS, ship-from-store, or distributed order management at scale.
  • Familiarity with experimentation platforms, CDPs, and modern analytics stacks.
