Job description

We’re looking for people who put their innovation to work to advance our success – and their own. Join an organization that ensures a more secure world through connecting and protecting our customers with inventive electrical solutions.

Our Electrical Connections Product Development team is seeking a senior mechanical product development engineer responsible for leading complex product development initiatives across the ERICO, ILSCO, and ERIFLEX portfolios.

This role drives innovation, mechanical architecture decisions, and multi-functional collaboration to accelerate NPI success and expand nVent’s leadership in electrical connections. This position has direct impact on portfolio vitality, product roadmap acceleration, revenue growth, and global competitiveness of nVent’s Electrical Connections segment.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead end to end execution of mechanical system development, including feasibility evaluations, prototype builds, customer informed iterations, validation testing, agency certification, and commercialization.
  • Develop complete and accurate material, component, and product specifications, ensuring alignment with quality standards and supporting the creation of robust quality assurance procedures.
  • Plan, implement, and refine engineering tasks by translating product requirements into structured workstreams, defining clear milestones, and maintaining a well prioritized engineering backlog that supports NPI timelines.
  • Validate mechanical designs through rigorous testing, iterative prototyping, and coordination of third party compliance, certification activities, and performance conformance evaluations.
  • Support launch readiness by partnering with commercial teams and leading NPI specific training across internal and customer facing groups.
  • Partner closely with project management to ensure alignment on timelines, deliverables, and multi-functional execution, while retaining ownership of engineering scope and outcomes
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews, FMEAs, and structured risk mitigation efforts, ensuring robust engineering decisions and early identification of technical risk

Funnel Generation

  • Act as a technical voice in the field—engaging directly with end‑users to understand installation, performance, and usability issues, and returning well‑defined, feasibility‑grounded project ideas that strengthen the NPI funnel and guide future product direction.
  • Lead advance research initiatives that uncover and de risk emerging materials, processes, and technologies—removing technical barriers and unlocking foundational capabilities that enable one or multiple future NPI projects.

YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering technology from an ABET accredited program
  • Ideally 5+ years of related product development experience
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; exceptional attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication; highly collaborative with the ability to work independently, lead numerous projects, and drive cross‑functional alignment.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks assemblies, modeling, drawings, and PDM/PLM systems (ENOVIA) ; experienced in digital prototyping and rapid design iteration.
  • Demonstrated ownership mentality with a track record of getting results and delivering complete, high-quality engineering outcomes
  • Knowledgeable in UL, IEEE, and IEC compliance requirements; effective in coordinating with global manufacturing, sourcing teams, and test laboratories.

WE HAVE:

  • A dynamic global reach with diverse operations around the world that will stretch your abilities, provide plentiful career opportunities, and allow you to make an impact every day

  • Commitment to strengthen communities where our employees live and work
