Job summary

Unissant, Inc. is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our team in Herndon, VA. You will transform complex multi‑party processes into clear, accessible digital products for a Navy finance training program, collaborating with a PM, a full‑stack engineer, and a cloud solutions engineer.

You will lead discovery, wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and accessibility conformance, supported by a senior delivery team. This role runs from discovery through delivery, including UAT support.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in product design, user experience design, human-centered design, interaction design, visual design, or related field.
• Experience designing web-based applications, workflow tools, portals, dashboards, enterprise systems, or other complex digital solutions.
• Experience developing user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and implementation-ready design specifications.
• Experience conducting user research, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, or design validation activities.
• Working knowledge of modern UX tools such as Figma, Miro, FigJam, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent.
• Experience collaborating with business stakeholders, analysts, developers, testers, and project managers in an iterative delivery environment.
• Familiarity with accessibility practices, including Section 508 compliance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders and users to understand current processes, user needs, pain points, business rules, and desired future-state workflows.
• Translate requirements into user journeys, process flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity interface designs.
• Design clear, easy-to-use experiences for data collection, workflow tracking, status visibility, review, approval, documentation, and reporting functions.
• Collaborate with business analysts and software engineers to ensure designs are feasible, complete, and aligned with functional and technical requirements.
• Conduct usability reviews and user feedback sessions, document findings, and refine designs based on results.
• Apply accessibility and responsive design practices in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Prepare design specifications, annotated mockups, and other handoff materials to support implementation and testing.
• Support user acceptance testing, training materials, and iterative product improvement as needed.

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our team and support our client in Herndon, VA.

The ideal candidate is a senior human-centered design practitioner who can take a complex, multi-party business process and turn it into a clear, accessible digital product. This position supports a Department of the Navy financial management training program as part of a small, senior delivery team working alongside a program manager, a full stack engineer, and a cloud solutions engineer. The work runs from discovery through delivery and covers stakeholder sessions, requirements and workflow definition, wireframes and interactive prototypes, design system ownership, accessibility conformance, and support to user acceptance testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders and users to understand current processes, user needs, pain points, business rules, and desired future-state workflows.

Work Experience and Job Skills:

• 8 or more years of relevant experience in product design, user experience design, human-centered design, interaction design, visual design, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience designing web-based applications, workflow tools, portals, dashboards, enterprise systems, or other complex digital solutions.
• Experience developing user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and implementation-ready design specifications.
• Experience conducting user research, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, or design validation activities.
• Working knowledge of modern user experience and design tools such as Figma, Miro, FigJam, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent tools.
• Experience collaborating with business stakeholders, analysts, developers, testers, and project managers in an iterative delivery environment.
• Familiarity with accessibility practices, including Section 508 compliance principles.

Education:

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred but not required.
• In lieu of a degree, the candidate may qualify through additional progressive experience, military service, technical training, certifications, or demonstrated expertise in user experience, human-centered design, systems design, engineering, technical operations, instructional design, or related disciplines.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

• None required. Relevant certifications in user experience, human-centered design, accessibility, or agile delivery are preferred.

Communication Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing all levels of organization.
• Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner.

Clearance Requirements:

• United States citizenship is required. An active Top Secret (TS) security clearance is required.

Travel:

• Minimal travel, up to 10%. Occasional travel to a Government or University facility may be required.

Environmental Requirements:

• Mainly a routine office environment.
• May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
• Flexible in working extended hours.
