Job summary

Sompo International seeks a VP – Product Counsel to lead legal support for Financial Lines products, including policy drafting, coverage analyses, and regulatory considerations. This role partners with underwriting and business teams to shape product development in a dynamic P&C environment.

The candidate must have a JD, bar admission, and at least ten years of relevant experience, with in-house or insurance law background.

Qualifications

• JD and bar admission in a state; in-house NJ admission eligible.
• Minimum of ten years of relevant experience, with in-house or insurance law background.
• Experience drafting or advising on cyber, professional liability, or Financial Lines policy forms.
• Strong writing, drafting, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Draft and advise on Financial Lines policy forms, endorsements, and related product documents.
• Counsel Financial Lines underwriters and management on policy terms, coverage issues, product questions, and related legal matters.
• Partner with underwriters in negotiating coverage terms and conditions, with a focus on practical, business-oriented solutions.
• Support the development and enhancement of new and existing Financial Lines products, with a primary focus on cyber and professional liability products.
• Review and advise on related business documents, including non-disclosure agreements, warranty statements, commercial contracts, and marketing materials.
• Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial, marketing, operations, and regulatory compliance teams in connection with product development.
• Provide product-related regulatory compliance support, including guidance on state filing requirements.
• Contribute to the continual improvement of forms, workflows, and processes.
• Perform other responsibilities consistent with the role as business needs evolve.
