Job summary

Launch Ventures seeks a Senior Product Controller to own and shape the accounting function for its capital markets activities, including trade accounting, regulatory filings, and controls. You will coordinate with front office, Compliance, and Legal, delivering high-quality reporting to executives and auditors.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in broker-dealer or capital markets accounting, strong GAAP expertise, and ERP experience (NetSuite/Enfusion).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in accounting/finance with broker-dealer, bank, or capital markets focus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including financial instruments and derivatives accounting.
  • Experience with regulatory capital and reporting requirements (e.g., net capital rules, FOCUS filings).
  • CPA and FINRA Series 27 preferred.
  • Results-oriented leader with ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic, analytical thinker with ownership mentality and excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP; experience with Enfusion or trading/portfolio systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience driving process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Own and scale the accounting function for the capital markets business, including trade accounting, P&L substantiation, and reconciliation with front-office/trading teams
  • Oversee regulatory capital calculations and required filings, coordinating with Compliance and Legal
  • Provide technical accounting leadership on complex capital markets matters including revenue recognition and derivatives accounting
  • Oversee accounting for collateral, margin, and counterparty cash management
  • Lead regular and ad hoc financial reporting to the Executive Team, Board, investors and auditors
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and support new accounting standards for capital markets products
  • Set strategic direction for financial systems and procedures to ensure automation and auditability
  • Oversee tax and treasury; support outside accountants and counsel
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and regulators
  • Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards

Role Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Product Controller to own, lead, and shape the accounting function for its capital markets (CM) business. This role is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the company's trading and capital markets activity - including trade accounting, regulatory capital, and counterparty/collateral positions - and for setting the strategic direction of the systems and controls that support it. In this high-impact, high-visibility role, the Product Controller will drive engagement with senior leadership and provide guidance on significant and technical accounting matters specific to capital markets products.

Responsibilities
  • Own and scale the accounting function supporting the company's capital markets business, including trade accounting, P&L substantiation, and reconciliation with front-office/trading teams
  • Oversee regulatory capital calculations and required filings (e.g., net capital, FOCUS, or comparable regulatory reporting), coordinating with Compliance and Legal as needed
  • Provide technical accounting leadership on complex capital markets matters - including revenue recognition, derivatives/financial instruments accounting, and consolidation
  • Own accounting for collateral, margin, and counterparty cash management related to trading activity
  • Oversee and drive execution of regular and ad hoc financial reporting and statements to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, other internal stakeholders, investors, and auditors
  • Ensure accuracy of historical financial records in accordance with GAAP and support implementation of new accounting standards affecting capital markets products
  • Set the strategic direction for financial systems and procedures - including trading/portfolio systems - to ensure proper automation, auditability, and controls
  • Oversee tax and treasury; support outside accountants and counsel on required tax filings and optimize treasury operations
  • Own and manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and relevant regulators
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal control guidelines, policy, and procedure
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and foreign regulatory requirements, and professional standards
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in accounting/finance, with meaningful experience at a broker-dealer, bank, or capital markets-focused financial institution required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including financial instruments and derivatives accounting
  • Experience with regulatory capital and reporting requirements (e.g., net capital rules, FOCUS filings)
  • CPA and FINRA Series 27 preferred
