Job summary

Quest Oracle Community seeks a Product Controller (Consultant) to join a leading global financial institution in New York. You will provide P&L and valuation oversight across institutional businesses and partner with Operations, Technology and Market Risk on control processes.

Responsibilities include reviewing P&L, daily revenue inputs, month-end close, and ad-hoc MI reporting. Strong Excel, data analysis, and knowledge of equity and fixed income products are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience rationalizing complex spreadsheet processes and re-engineering workflows.
  • Track record in identifying control gaps and driving improvements.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with large data set management.
  • Daily P&L experience with equities and fixed income products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Review and report P&L from trading activities and explain movements.
  • Provide daily net revenue inputs to management reporting.
  • Conduct month-end actual vs. reported reviews and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Technology, and Market Risk to resolve issues.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of trading activity and GL close.
  • Support process and system improvement initiatives.
  • Understand front-to-subledger to GL process flows.
  • Ensure compliance with audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting to senior management and MI opportunities.
  • Complete month-end duties to ensure ledger accuracy and deadlines.

Job description

Our client, a leading global financial institution, is seeking a Product Controller (Consultant) to join their Product Control team. This is a unique opportunity for someone with strong analytical skills and a passion for financial control to provide Profit & Loss and Valuation oversight across the firm's institutional businesses.

In this role, you'll be a key partner across Operations, Technology, and Market Risk - helping to develop and maintain the control processes that ensure accurate, well-governed P&L reporting and general ledger accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review and report P&L from trading activities; evaluate trader-supplied valuations, calculate and analyze P&L, and explain P&L movements
  2. Provide daily net revenue inputs to the management reporting group
  3. Conduct month-end actual vs. reported review and reconciliation
  4. Partner closely with Operations, Technology, and Market Risk to resolve issues
  5. Ensure proper accounting treatment of trading activity, including preparing/posting journal entries and performing the month-end general ledger close
  6. Support process and system improvement initiatives
  7. Understand process flows from front-end systems through the subledger to the General Ledger
  8. Ensure compliance with internal/external audit and regulatory requirements
  9. Provide ad-hoc reporting to senior management and identify opportunities for new management information (MI)
  10. Complete month-end duties to ensure the general ledger is accurate and all deadlines are met
Required Skills & Experience
  1. Proven ability to rationalize and re-engineer complex, spreadsheet-based processes
  2. Experience identifying control gaps and implementing improvements
  3. Strong technical and analytical skills, with MS Excel expertise and the ability to manage/reconcile large data sets
  4. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  5. Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize under tight, competing deadlines
  6. Daily P&L experience with strong understanding of equity and fixed income products
  7. Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
Preferred Skills
  1. Understanding of Independent Price Verification (IPV)
  2. Awareness of current market trends and regulatory changes
  3. P&L Attribution experience
  4. SQL and Visual Basic proficiency
  5. Familiarity with Oracle GL, Bloomberg, Sungard Phase 3, or FSS Spectrum
