Job summary

Fermilab is seeking a Senior Process Piping Mechanical Engineer to design, test, install, and operate piping systems for accelerator facilities. You’ll work with ANSYS, NASTRAN, Siemens NX and additive manufacturing to prototype and optimize components.

You will lead mechanical design, analyze piping networks, and coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure reliability and performance for projects like LBNF and PIP-II.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of engineering experience (or 6+ years with a Master’s).
• Strong communication with customers/stakeholders and teammates.
• Proficient in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, piping analysis, and CAD.
• Ability to prepare calculations, 3-D models, and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and specify piping systems for accelerator cooling and beamline components.
• Lead mechanical-system design, thermal-fluid analysis, and piping network calculations.
• Provide operations engineering support and design upgrades for reliability.
• Direct drafters, designers, technicians, and vendors; communicate through drawings and specs.
