Job description

Senior Process Engineer in California, USA - MP

Full-time

Family owned and operated since 1990, the company has been manufacturing & delivering quality products to our customers for over 30 years. We are expert injection molders of plastic for custom-made designs. The company capabilities range from high-precision medical molding to large projects utilizing structural foam injection molding. We custom mold parts across a wide range of industries, including medical, electronic, consumer, aviation, and automotive.

We are seeking a high-impact Senior Process Engineer to take complete process ownership across all plastic injection-molded parts at its facilities. This role works closely with Operations Supervisors, Molding Technicians, Maintenance, the Tool Room, and Automation Engineers to establish stable, repeatable processes, minimize waste, and drive continuous operational improvement as the company scales.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS) The employee will be evaluated directly on the following success metrics:

  • Scrap Rate: Reduce scrap percentage across all active parts.
  • Cycle Time Adherence: Ensure active production operates at or below established standard cycle times.
  • Cycle Time Reduction: Identify and execute cycle-time optimizations on existing tooling.
  • Labor Efficiency: Reduce direct labor hours required per unit through process improvements and automation integration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Scientific Molding and New Part Qualification:

  • Lead tool trials and qualify new molds and materials using rigorous Scientific Molding principles, including viscosity curves, gate-seal studies, and pressure-drop analyses.
  • Establish robust, repeatable process windows for new tooling and document baseline parameters.
  • Transition newly qualified tools into full production with completed Process Sheets and SOPs.

Process Optimization and Stability:

  • Methodically evaluate existing processes to identify root causes of process variation, high scrap, or extended cycle times.
  • Systematically re-engineer and optimize parameters to reduce cycle times and scrap while preserving part quality and structural integrity.
  • Drive process standardization across all shifts to maximize process capability.

Process Ownership, Training, and Discipline:

  • Own and maintain official Process Sheets for all parts running within the facilities.
  • Partner with Production Supervisors and Molding Technicians to train, mentor, and align teams on parameter standards and proper troubleshooting procedures.
  • Establish and enforce a Process Change Management System; oversee root-cause investigations for parameter deviations and update official documentation only when approved.

Automation and Direct Labor Reduction:

  • Collaborate with the internal Engineering team to identify, design, and integrate robotics, vision inspection, automated secondary operations, and other automation systems into existing cells.

Maintenance and Tooling Collaboration:

  • Partner with the Tool Room to address mold wear, venting, thermal-management, or mechanical issues that introduce process variation.
  • Partner with Maintenance to troubleshoot press hydraulic, electric, auxiliary, and process-equipment anomalies affecting consistency.
  • Lead joint Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations for recurring tooling or press issues.
