United States Digital Space LLC in Houston seeks a Senior Process Engineer to join the Manufacturing and Technology Global Business Unit. You will drive technical excellence across studies, estimates, and project execution within a highly regulated life sciences environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years in lieu of a degree; utility system design experience.
  • Strong knowledge in hydraulic design for utility systems.
  • Experience in design of systems containing flammable and combustible materials.
  • Familiar with distillation systems for solvent recovery (e.g., Pressure Swing Distillation) and related technologies.
  • Experience in design, engineering, and construction of industrial facilities with storage, distillation, and abatement tech.
  • Process simulation and engineering design software proficiency (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Pipe-Flo, Aspen Plus, Excel).
  • Proficient with GMP, ASME BPE, ISPE Baseline Guides, ASTM E2500 and EPA/DOT/OSHA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Process/Chemical engineering methods with independent judgment.
  • Develop hydraulic calculations for assigned scope.
  • Develop deliverables including Basis, Specifications, Schematics for utility systems utilizing distillation for solvent recovery.
  • Perform relief system design, PSV sizing.
  • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and control philosophies.
  • Ensure designs meet industry codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and construction teams for alignment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement.

Project Overview:

the company's Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) business unit is supporting the Eli Lilly Houston project, a major active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility in the Houston, Texas area. This complex, highly regulated project expands the company's life sciences portfolio and requires strong field leadership, disciplined planning, safe execution, and close coordination across construction, field engineering, ES&H, quality, project controls, startup, supply chain, and subcontractor teams.

Job Summary:

the company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Engineer to join its Manufacturing and Technology Global Business Unit (M&T GBU) Engineering Team. This role is pivotial in delivering technical excellence across strategic initiatives, estimates, studies, and project execution phases.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in Utility design in the pharmaceutical sector and demonstrate the ability to manage complex engineering challenges in a collaborative environment.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Process/Chemical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Develop hydraulic calculations for assigned scope.
  • Develop deliverables including Basis, Specifications, Schematics for utility systems utilizing distillation processes to recover solvents.
  • Performs relief system design, including Pressure Safety valve (PSV) sizing.
  • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and control philosophies.
  • Ensure designs meet industry related codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and construction teams for technical alignment and project execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience in chemical or pharmaceutical industries in lieu of a degree; to include experience in Utility System design of Flammable and Combustible materials.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong knowledge in hydraulic design for Utility Systems.
  • Excellent understanding of the calculations and information required in equipment datasheets.
  • Experience in design of systems containing flammable and combustible materials.
  • Familiar with the design and requirements of distillation systems for Solvent recovery such as Pressure Swing Distillation and other technology.
  • Experience in design, engineering, and construction of industrial facilities, with deep knowledge of chemical raw material storage, waste collection, distillation, and abatement technologies.
  • Skilled in process simulation and engineering design software, including AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Pipe-Flo, Aspen Plus, and Excel.
  • Proficient with major industry regulations and standards such as GMP, ASME BPE, ISPE Baseline Guides, ASTM E2500, and compliance requirements from EPA, DOT, and OSHA.
