Job summary

Marathon Los Angeles Refinery in Carson, CA seeks a Senior Process Controls Technician to lead design, implementation, and maintenance of refinery control systems. You will troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, and collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance to ensure reliable, safe unit performance.

You will manage control system data historians, update narratives and diagrams, and participate in CAPEX projects from design through commissioning, including FAT/SAT

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED plus 5+ years in industrial controls or instrumentation maintenance.
• The role requires proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and maintains process control strategies to optimize unit performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoots and resolves control system issues including hardware, software, and network components.
• Collaborates with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve challenges and maintain relationships with console operators.
• Maintains and optimizes control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS) for safe and efficient refinery operations.
• Develops control narratives, logic diagrams, and system documentation; manages controls-related projects including vendor coordination and commissioning.
• Lead project design, FAT, SAT, and implementation of new hardware/software in small and large CAPEX projects.
• Provide technical support, improve work practices, monitor performance, coordinate vendor updates, and maintain data historians.
