Job summary

Marathon Petroleum’s Los Angeles Refinery in Carson, California is seeking an experienced Process Controls Technician to provide control-system support across the refinery. You will maintain DCS/PLC/SIS hardware and software, verify data integrity, coordinate updates with operations and maintenance, and document changes and training materials.

This non-exempt role offers 9/80 or 5/40 on-site schedules, after-hours support, and opportunities to lead CAPEX projects, troubleshoot control issues,

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED or equivalent and 2 years in industrial controls or instrumentation maintenance.
• Associates degree in Electrical or Instrument Technology preferred; related field acceptable.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and maintains process control strategies to optimize unit performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoots and resolves control system issues—hardware, software, and network components.
• Collaborates with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve challenges and support operators.
• Maintains and optimizes control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS) to support safe refinery operations.
• Develops control narratives, logic diagrams, and system documentation.
• Leads project design, FAT/SAT, and implementation of new hardware/software.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Associate's Degree in Electrical or Instrument Technology

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field (preferred)
