Placements24 seeks a senior Process Control Engineer to advance automation and optimize operations in Welkom, Free State. You will design, implement, and maintain DCS/PLC/SCADA systems, improving plant efficiency, product quality, and safety through advanced control strategies.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s in chemical or electrical engineering with 6+ years in process control, strong PID tuning skills, and experience with major DCS platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process control engineering in chemical/heavy industrial settings.
• Experience with major DCS platforms (e.g., Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Siemens PCS 7) and PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens).
• Strong knowledge of control theory, PID tuning, and APC concepts.
• Experience with SCADA systems and HMI development.
• Familiarity with industrial networking protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
• Experience in mining/mineral processing is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and implement advanced process control strategies.
• Develop and maintain DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems for new and existing processes.
• Optimize control loops to improve stability, efficiency, and yield.
• Troubleshoot control systems, instrumentation, and automation hardware/software.
• Collaborate with process engineers and operators to identify improvements.
• Develop and execute test plans for control system upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and cybersecurity best practices.
• Develop and deliver training on process control systems for plant personnel.
• Manage vendor relationships for automation hardware/software.
• Contribute to functional safety systems and procedures.
