Job summary

Unknown company seeks a Senior Process Chemist to join its R&D team in Upington, Northern Cape. You will design and optimize processes, scale from lab to pilot and commercial production, and lead troubleshooting and SOP development for safe, cost-effective manufacture of specialty chemicals.

The role requires a MSc or PhD in Chemistry or related field with 5+ years in process chemistry, strong kinetics/thermodynamics understanding, and proficiency with GC, HPLC, NMR, and titration.

Qualifications

• Requires MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with focus on process chemistry.
• 5+ years of experience in process chemistry, preferably in chemical manufacturing.
• Strong background in reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and separation techniques.
• Proficiency with analytical instrumentation for process monitoring and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for industrial-scale chemical production.
• Design and execute laboratory experiments to investigate process parameters and improvements.
• Perform scale-up studies from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues in manufacturing.
• Analyze process samples and interpret results using analytical techniques (GC, HPLC, NMR, titration).
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with chemical engineers, production staff, and quality control teams.
• Develop SOPs for new and existing processes.
• Identify opportunities for process innovation and cost reduction.
• Mentor junior chemists and technicians.
