Job summary

Massachusetts Probation Service is recruiting for the position of First Assistant Chief Probation Officer – Hampden. The role leads probation staff, supports the Chief Probation Officer, and ensures operations align with probation standards.

The position is designated under the NAGE bargaining unit with a starting salary at $105,664 and a maximum of $154,318.06. A 2026 FACPO/CPO promotional exam is required for eligibility unless currently serving as Chief Probation Officer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Three years of experience as Assistant Chief Probation Officer.
• Knowledge of probation policies and HR procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned personnel and review work.
• Ensure compliance with probation standards and reports.
• Manage time/attendance, training, and leave requests.
• Provide training and coaching to staff and participate in performance evaluations.
• May perform duties of lower-level probation officers when needed.
