The Commercial Data Science team is seeking a highly innovative and strategic leader to drive Data Science/ AI/ Generative AI innovation, champion technological breakthroughs, and enable seamless integration of reusable AI components across the organization. The candidate will have a strong background in inventing and scaling Data Science/ AI capabilities, managing partner ecosystems, and transitioning solutions to production with a component-driven architecture. This role plays a part in new AI technology breakthroughs and in ensuring operational excellence for improving the reusability of AI innovations.

Key Responsibilities:

AI Innovation:

• Develop and contribute to new AI capabilities by inventing innovative solutions or using existing "AI Lego blocks" to create scalable, reusable components for business applications.

Component Architecture Adoption:

• Support NA teams in adopting and implementing a component-driven AI architecture, enabling rapid scaling and integration of new technologies across use cases.

Transition to Business and Production:

• Seamlessly transition AI innovations from the research phase to Business Innovation teams and production deployment for NA Commercial, Medical Affairs and Patient teams while ensuring robust performance.

Production Oversight:

• Supervise production deployed data science models and AI systems to ensure business outcomes are met. Work closely with the vendor ecosystem to maintain high standards of service and output.

Partner Ecosystem Management:

• Build and maintain strategic relationships with partners, startups, hyperscalers, and ecosystem partners to explore, test and integrate new innovative AI technologies.

Operational Excellence:

• Enable sustainable innovation through reusable Data Science/ AI components, cost-effective operations, and streamlined production workflows. Oversee vendor contributions to ensure production quality and innovation.
• Provide leadership to data scientists and AI/ML engineers, mentoring their growth and development.
• Collaborate with other NA data and AI leaders to develop technology strategies including data, tools, methods, infrastructure, and partnerships.
• Drive organizational vision and strategy as a core member of the Commercial Data Science Chapter Leadership Team.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• PhD and 5+ years, or Master degree and 8+ years of proven experience in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computational Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related fields.

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science AI innovation and deployment, with a record of building scalable, reusable components.

• Solid understanding of AI algorithms, including machine learning techniques such as regression, decision trees, clustering, neural networks, and large language models.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Ruby, or Bash.

• Experience with MLOps frameworks like Kubeflow, MLFlow, or Airflow.

• Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience with AI engineering on cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP.

• Proven thought leadership with examples of innovative analytic solutions and measurable impact.

• Strong communication skills to explain complex methodologies to diverse audiences.

• Experience managing data science teams, recruiting, and talent development.

Other:

• This position may require up to 15% domestic travel.
