Job description

Senior Principal Research Scientist, Javelin Biotech Inc. (Woburn, MA)

Will work as a member of the Tissue Engineering team to develop complex in-vitro models of healthy and diseased human tissues for use in a preclinical drug development platform. Responsibilities include:

1. Working independently in a lab environment, monitoring and operating specialized equipment.
2. Culturing primary human cells and induced pluripotent stem cells utilizing various culture formats such as spheroids, 2D plated, transwell, sandwich, 3D hydrogel, and Javelin's tissue chip platform.
3. Designing and executing studies independently, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings to the project team.
4. Conducting applied research, applying cell culture, stem cell differentiation, and biological characterization skills such as biochemical and analytical assays, RNA extraction, immunostaining, and transcriptome analysis.
5. Improving existing tissue models and developing new models for the Javelin platform.

Minimum requirements: Master's degree in bioengineering or a closely related field.

Special requirements:

1. Demonstrated knowledge (coursework accepted) of:

• Microphysiological systems and complex in-vitro models
• Static in-vitro cultures (spheroids, transwell, sandwich) and in-vitro cell culture of primary human liver (primary human hepatocytes and non-parenchymal cells)
• RNA extraction and qPCR
• Biochemical assays (colorimetric and fluorometric, including albumin, urea, cytochrome P450, viability)
• Immunostaining
