Job summary

SAIC in Chantilly, VA seeks a Senior Principal Radar Signals Engineer to join a mission-driven analysis team supporting satellite programs. Lead modeling, simulation, and analysis of satellite-tracking radar systems across diverse Earth orbits, collaborating with propulsion, optics, AI/ML, cloud, GPUs, and astrodynamics.

The role requires designing radar signals, performing antenna analysis, and delivering technically rigorous briefings to senior Government customers in a classified environment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree and 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with target-tracking radar signals and digital signal processing for detection, tracking, and characterization.
• Strong foundation in electrical engineering and mathematics, plus DSP expertise.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, MATLAB for modeling, simulation, and analysis of radar/RF systems.
• Ability to work onsite in Chantilly, VA in a classified environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze satellite-tracking radar signals, waveforms, and signal processing algorithms for detection, acquisition, tracking, and characterization of space objects.
• Perform antenna design and analysis, optimizing radar system effectiveness across LEO, MEO, and GEO targets.
• Develop and apply modeling and simulation tools using Python, C++, MATLAB and HPC resources to evaluate radar performance.
• Conduct independent trade studies and technical assessments, reviewing algorithms and results from internal and external teams.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to simulate mission operations concepts at scale and provide actionable insights to customers.
• Develop and present clear, technically rigorous briefings to senior Government customers and internal stakeholders.
• Optional: radar return modeling using 3D satellite models for analysis.
