Job summary

Jabil in Prince George, VA is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for LV switchgear. You will serve as the senior technical authority on mechanical architecture, governance, validation, and lifecycle support across programs.

You will lead mechanical design decisions, develop standards, and drive DFM/ DFA initiatives while collaborating with global teams, manufacturing, and suppliers to meet safety, quality, and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years in mechanical engineering with LV switchgear or power distribution experience.
• Senior technical leadership across multiple programs and product platforms.
• Advanced CAD proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent.
• Deep knowledge of sheet metal design, busbar systems, and mechanical interfaces.
• Familiarity with UL 891/1558, IEC 61439, NEMA, IEEE standards.
• Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, welding, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Govern LV switchgear mechanical architecture and design governance.
• Translate requirements into specifications, roadmaps, and release deliverables.
• Lead system-level architecture decisions for enclosures, busbars, insulation, and interfaces.
• Define mechanical criteria for structural integrity, GD&T, and assembly methods.
• Guide design verification, pilot production, and post-launch support across programs.
• Drive DFM/ DFA/ DFR/ DFS and VAVE initiatives.
• Provide field support and supplier technical issue resolution.
• Mentor engineers and develop reusable standards and guidelines.
