Job summary

QinetiQ US in Franklin, MA seeks a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis and maintenance of military and commercial hardware products, including robotic and vehicle autonomy systems. You will guide electromechanical design tasks, review documentation, and coordinate with customers and suppliers from our Franklin facility.

The role requires 15–30 years in mechanical design, strong leadership of up to 6 engineers, and a background in FEA, DoD programs, and fabrication

Qualifications

• 15-30 years’ experience in mechanical design.
• Direct project engineering or technical lead experience.
• Experience performing Finite Element Analysis.
• Design of land, maritime, and robotic systems.
• Capable of leading design teams of up to 6 engineers/designers.
• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining.
• Knowledge of stage-gate and design cycle processes.
• Experience with welding standards and practices.
• Experience processing Engineering Changes to docs on DoD programs.
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Electromechanical design, layout, modeling and packaging using SolidWorks/CREO.
• Perform FEA to evaluate vibration, shock, thermal and structural loads.
• Develop engineering estimates and design concepts for proposals.
• Implement Design for Manufacturability practices.
• Create/update detailed designs and drawings for fabrication.
• Interface with customers and vendors on project level.
• Write design specifications, reports and proposals.
• Present internal and customer technical briefings.
• Perform tolerance analyses and approve drawings.
• Provide guidance to vendors and manufacturing on DoD electromechanical assemblies.
• Disposition discrepant material and support assembly in DoD programs.
• Support Devens and Franklin facilities.
• Possibly obtain DoD security clearance if required.
