Job summary

QinetiQ US in Franklin, MA seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design, development and analysis of rugged military and commercial hardware, including maritime and robotic systems. The role requires hands-on engineering, design reviews, and coordination with vendors and customers.

You will act as a technical lead, oversee design tasks, ensure manufacturability and compliance, and support both Devens and Franklin facilities, with eligibility for DoD clearance if required.

Qualifications

• 10–20 years of mechanical design experience.
• Direct project engineering or technical lead experience.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis.
• Maritime systems and hardware design experience.
• Robotic systems and hardware design experience.
• Ability to follow mechanical programs from inception through system integration.
• Ability to lead design teams of up to 6 engineers/designers.
• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining processes.
• Familiarity with stage-gate design processes.
• Experience with welding standards and practices.
• Experience processing Engineering Changes to DoD documentation.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Electromechanical design, layout, modeling and production support of assemblies and electronics packaging.
• Analysis of complex mechanical systems using ANSYS Workbench for vibration, thermal, and related responses.
• Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
• Create/update detailed designs and drawings for fabrication.
• Interface with customers and vendors on project engineering levels.
• Write design specifications, reports, and proposals.
• Present technical internal and customer presentations.
• Perform tolerance analysis and approve designs/drawings.
• Provide technical guidance to vendors and manufacturing for DoD assemblies.
• Disposition discrepant material and author fabrication deviations.
• Support both Devens and Franklin facilities.
• Maintain ability to obtain DoD security clearance if required.
