Job Description

The Senior Principal Underwriter is responsible for driving profit, growth, service, and expense objectives through managing the financial analysis and pricing of Prime's book of business. This position oversees the development of recommended pricing terms, offer structures, and risk analysis for highly complex cases in the Health Plan markets that impact Prime's financial goals. The role serves as a subject matter expert on underwriting, performance guarantees, and financial considerations.

Responsibilities

1. Evaluate the utilization and financial experience of customers and prospects, focusing on complex cases within the Health Plan marketplace.
2. Research, analyze, develop, and apply advanced knowledge of pricing strategies in the PBM industry; provide underwriting services to determine pricing and monitor accounts for profitability, leveraging contractual or internal remedies as needed.
3. Partner with Sales and Client Engagement to develop client presentations and lead negotiations related to pricing and performance guarantees.
4. Consult with Legal and IT departments; develop financial presentations for Senior and Executive Leadership to mitigate risks in securing new clients.
5. Build external relationships with consultants to evaluate Prime's competitiveness and improve financial offerings.
6. Lead contract negotiations, ensuring detailed clauses match financials and do not expose the company to additional risk.
7. Develop and maintain positive relationships with senior leadership across departments.
8. Manage staffing, performance, and mentorship of junior underwriters.
9. Lead initiatives for underwriting tools and process improvements.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, accounting, or related field, or equivalent experience; HS diploma or GED required.
• 10 years of experience in Finance or Accounting, including 3 years in the PBM industry.
• Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Additional Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of mathematical applications in underwriting, including calculations of discounts, proportions, and percentages.
• Ability to conduct complex analyses to influence business outcomes.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of simplifying complex material for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PBM Analytics, Google Cloud (GCP), SQL.
• Progressive leadership experience.

• Constant sitting, handling, talking, and hearing.
• Frequent reaching with hands and arms.
• Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
