Job summary

SAIC seeks a Senior Principal Cybersecurity Engineer to support critical Navy communications within the DoD. This hands-on security expert will find vulnerabilities, secure classified environments, and collaborate with engineers, program managers, and government personnel to deliver resilient systems. On-site in San Diego, CA with up to 10% travel.

Strong background in DoD security frameworks, penetration testing, and secure IT architecture is required. Candidates must be U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, CS, or Engineering; 9+ years experience (14+ with degree acceptable).
• 5-7 years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience.
• 5+ years designing or supporting hardened IT systems in classified or high-security environments.
• Proven penetration testing or red team experience against DoD/IC systems.
• Experience with air-gap architecture, data diodes, and secure offline transfer.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute penetration tests on systems, networks, and applications.
• Analyze network traffic and threat detection using Wireshark.
• Architect and harden IT systems in classified environments.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and mitigation aligned with DISA STIGs.
• Document vulnerabilities, risks, and remediation recommendations.
• Stay updated on exploits and security tools for government reporting.
