Job summary

Blue Shield of CA seeks a Senior Principal, Application Architecture, to shape reusable services and vendor integrations for Stellarus platform, enabling payer, provider, pharma workflows. This role drives architecture decisions, aligns with enterprise strategy, and guides production-ready implementations.

As the technical authority, you will work hands-on with code, system design, and production tradeoffs, balancing build-versus-buy with vendor integrations to deliver scalable marketplace

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher with 4 years of related experience
• 12+ years in software engineering or architecture
• Experience setting architecture direction for enterprise-scale distributed systems
• Expert knowledge of microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, and domain-driven design
• Hands-on engineering background discussing code structure, API contracts, data modeling, and deployment
• Cloud experience with Azure preferred; AWS/GCP transferable
• Strong understanding of TypeScript, Node.js, APIs, React-based platforms, Kubernetes, CI/CD
• Experience with domain-driven design, service decomposition, integration architecture
• Practical experience with build-versus-buy decisions and vendor integrations
• Strong API/data architecture judgments including REST, OpenAPI, PostgreSQL
• Ability to lead complex technical decisions across stakeholders
• Excellent written communication

Responsibilities

• Shape enterprise architecture direction for Stellarus platform
• Define reusable services and marketplace capabilities
• Guide vendor integration and AI-assisted development patterns
• Ensure platform designs enable teams to build, test, deploy, and operate
• Collaborate with engineers, product, security, and operations
