Citi is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer for API Tooling & Automation in Irving, TX. This role drives architectural strategy, platform modernization, and AI/ML-driven tooling to boost developer productivity and platform resilience.

As a high-seniority leader, you will mentor engineers, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and ensure strong governance and security across pipelines and deployments. The position is full-time, on-site in Irving with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in Enterprise Architecture, Software Engineering, or Platform Engineering within a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Subject matter expertise in architecting, securing, and stabilizing complex, high-volume API platforms, developer portals, or API gateways.
• Proven track record of automated solutions for risk reduction, developer self-service, and operational efficiency.
• Broad technical knowledge across cloud platforms, internet frameworks, and mobile paradigms to enable secure, performant, and scalable solutions.
• Proven history of driving resource optimization and cost-saving initiatives through data-driven analysis.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical leadership and architecture for API tooling and automation initiatives.
• Drive platform modernization and governance across API platforms and developer self-service portals.
• Lead design of AI/ML-driven developer tools and automated pipelines to improve platform hygiene and efficiency.
• Contribute to design governance through architectural best practices and templates.
• Manage risk, security, and compliance in pipelines and deployments.
• Mentor engineers and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
