Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION – Senior Principal

Growing the Business

  • Maximize client network to secure client engagements to keep yourself fully utilized, identify and create new opportunities, and expand our footprint within existing accounts
  • Continually push Scimitar forward into new client accounts and service offerings
  • Lead and support business development efforts from proposals to closing new engagements

Client Delivery

  • Serve as a highly effective strategic leader, working with senior management and motivating yourself and others to deliver exceptional results
  • Lead accounts (vs. individual projects) by ensuring each project is meeting or exceeding its initial value proposition
  • Encourage clients and other Scimitarians to continuously improve through coaching and thought leadership

Client Management

  • Manage project teams, including contractors, and assume top-line accountability for client satisfaction. Ensure conflicts are resolved/ escalated as appropriate
  • Successfully navigate extremely complex projects through an exceptional ability to communicate with senior-level clients and application of effective leadership principles
  • Continuously exceed client expectation upon project delivery

Account Management

  • Ensure overall account management requirements are complete and maintained throughout the project (e.g. SOW signatures, MSAs executed, POs created, payments received, data entered into account tracking systems, etc.)
  • Track project progress and costs against plan and address any necessary proactive corrective actions directly with the client (e.g., project extension, scope adjustment, etc.)
  • Effectively manage Scimitar cashflow by ensuring time and expenses are submitted on time
  • Define project scope and approach, working closely with other Scimitar team members to ensure client expectations are realistic at the outset and exceeded upon completion of the project

Firm Strategy and Infrastructure

  • Actively contribute to, drive, and lead Scimitar strategies and internal initiatives to grow and continuously improve all aspects of the firm
  • Participate in recruiting activities to identify and hire exceptional staff members
  • Act as an owner/operator of the business in all aspects by demonstrating a strong and ever-present drive to promote the success of Scimitar

People Development

  • Successfully develop and mentor other staff members within Scimitar to ensure Scimitar standards are met by providing informal and formal feedback in a timely and constructive manner
  • Support internal efforts to identify appropriate staff members to deliver projects
  • Create and maintain a rewarding environment where work-life balance is heavily considered, successes are rewarded, and performance issues are quickly escalated and resolved

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

A deep history of prior management consulting experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical arena is required, along with the demonstrated ability to successfully drive business development and leadership activities. MBAs are preferred along with Bachelor’s (and often graduate) degrees in engineering and/or life sciences. We also place a very high value on candidates with some prior industry operating roles, e.g., strong records in the biopharmaceutical industry or extremely rich operating experience.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of business management or consulting experience in a reputable company
  • 7+ years in a life sciences sector including Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals, Cell Therapy, Gene Therapy, Medical Devices or Diagnostics
  • Experience across two or more segments of the life sciences value chain: Research, Development (Clinical), Technical Operations (Mfg., Supply Chain, Logistics), or Commercial
  • Proven record of high value contribution to your past clients or employers
  • Experience in three or more of the following disciplines: Program Management, Project Management, Organizational Change Management, Analytics and Data Visualization, Digital Transformation, Organizational Strategy and Capability Building

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • Advanced Degree or MBA

Physical Requirements

  • Travel up to 80%. Actual travel will vary by client and project.
  • Ability to work across US and International time zones

Other Details

  • Travel requirements vary by client and may be up to 80% (though generally much less)
  • Candidates must possess US work authorization and fluency in English.
