Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Press Secretary to lead the agency's Press Office and serve as a senior spokesperson on media matters. You will guide day-to-day communications, oversee rapid response to media inquiries, and help tell the story of NYC DOT to residents and reporters.

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time experience in public relations, journalism, or closely related field including 18 months in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity.
  • Experience in government communications or media relations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the Press Office and manage high-volume media relations.
  • Serve as primary agency spokesperson and cultivate relationships with reporters and media outlets.
  • Develop proactive earned-media strategies highlighting agency work and safety information.
  • Draft and edit press releases, talking points, speeches, advisories, and briefing materials.
  • Plan press events and prepare agency leaders for interviews and public engagements.
  • Supervise and mentor Press Office staff and coordinate with agency units.
