Senior Preconstruction Manager

MBG is seeking an experienced preconstruction professional to lead day‑to‑day preconstruction execution across our multifamily, hospitality, and senior living portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Own the execution and quality of preconstruction efforts on assigned pursuits.
• Author concept, schematic, design‑development, and GMP‑level budgets with clear assumptions, allowances, and escalation considerations.
• Develop and present defensible cost strategies aligned with client expectations and market conditions.
• Build a thorough understanding of drawings, specifications, and project intent; identify gaps, conflicts, and scope ambiguities early and prepare clarifications and assumptions.
• Lead design‑phase cost conversations with architects, consultants, and ownership, providing constructability input that balances budget, schedule, quality, and risk.
• Develop bid strategies by trade, scope, and market; prepare bid instructions, scope of work, and evaluate subcontractor bids.
• Identify financial, scope, and execution risks before projects transition to operations and recommend contingency and risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Ensure a clean, accurate, and well‑communicated handoff to operations teams, confirming alignment on scope, assumptions, risk posture, and buyout strategy.
• Collaborate with and provide clear recommendations to the Director of Preconstruction on assumptions, risk, and overall pursuit strategy.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading preconstruction on complex commercial projects, especially in multifamily, hospitality, and senior living.
• Track record of authoring and defending project budgets through multiple design phases and leading bid processes, including scope development and trade coordination.
• Strong technical foundation built through formal education and hands‑on leadership experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• Equivalent professional experience showing technical rigor, financial understanding, and the ability to lead complex preconstruction efforts independently.
