Responsibilities

  • Drive Revenue Strategy with targeted goals to meet annual profit targets.
  • Prospect for profitable growth opportunities and nurture client relationships.
  • Manage 30-60-90 sales pipeline plans and track progress in CRM.
  • Coordinate with Estimating Team on bid calendars and proposals.
  • Represent the firm with Design Community, GCs, and owners at events.
  • Lead, coach, and develop other Business Development Managers.
  • Coordinate handoffs with Project Executives and Field Ops.
  • Monitor status vs. budget and improve historical production rates.
  • Perform other duties to support the Business Unit.

Job description

As part of the Pre-Construction Team, this role supports the Business Unit Leader by performing targeted sales activities and executing strategic initiatives to foster positive client relationships, identify profitable growth opportunities, and ultimately maximize the division's net profit and overall success. The Sr. Preconstruction Manager may have managerial responsibilities for other Preconstruction Managers within the Business Unit.

Essential Functions
Strategic Growth & Prospecting
  • Drive Revenue Strategy: Create and execute targeted sales goals and strategies designed to meet and exceed annual revenue and profit goals for the Business Unit.
  • Targeted Prospecting: Conduct consistent, intentional prospecting to identify profitable business and new growth opportunities with qualified customers.
  • Pipeline Management: Prepare, implement, regularly update, and execute structured 30-60-90 Sales Pipeline Plans.
  • CRM Utilization: Properly track all business development activities, client interactions, and pipeline progress using the company’s CRM platform.
Client Relations & Brand Promotion
  • Industry Networking: Actively represent and promote M&H by developing partnerships with the Design Community, General Contractors, Facility Managers, Property Owners, and Industrial/Manufacturing Companies.
  • Proactive Outreach: Engage heavily in industry associations, networking events, and conferences to elevate brand presence.
  • Relationship Management: Proactively manage necessary phone calls, face-to-face meetings, and lunches to establish and maintain highly productive, long-term relationships with assigned accounts and potential customers. Follow up promptly on incoming sales inquiries.
  • Opportunity Vetting: Monitor and identify potential bid opportunities with existing and prospective clients, ensuring all leads are properly vetted.
  • Go/No-Go Analysis: Perform go/no-go analyses in coordination with the Business Unit Leader and communicate viable opportunities to the Estimating Team.
  • Estimating Adherence: Manage bid calendars to ensure all estimates, proposals, and bids are completed accurately, on time, and in strict adherence to M&H SOPs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership
  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop other Business Development Managers, sharing best practices and driving team success.
  • Operational Handoffs: Partner closely with Project Executives and Field Operations to ensure strong project handoffs. Monitor estimate vs. actual project status and provide ongoing feedback on historical production cost rates to refine future bidding.
  • General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Business Unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professional Integrity & Compliance: Maintain high standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in strict accordance with Musselman and Hall (M&H) core policies and values.
  • Leadership & Strategic Vision: Demonstrate strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to successfully lead, coach, and develop team members.
  • Business Development Acumen: Possess a high comfort level in driving new business, targeting profitable opportunities and engaging daily with existing and potential customers, backed by excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Understand and effectively communicate business operations, including market-specific nuances, pre-construction, project management, and field operations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical & Software Proficiency: Exhibit proficiency in general software (Microsoft Office/Google Suite) with the ability to learn and manage CRM programs and estimating software. Accurately review blueprints, specifications, proposals, plans, and drawings.
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, including Estimating and Business Development activities in a commercial construction setting, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising, managing, or coaching others is strongly preferred.
