Job summary

Actalent seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer in Houston for leading electrical design of distributed generation and microgrid projects. You will work on HV/MV/LV systems, protection schemes, and interconnection with utilities, guiding cross-functional teams from concept to commissioning.

The role is hybrid, onsite three days per week in downtown Houston with remote options Monday and Friday, and offers a contract-to-hire path with strong compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• PE license preferred
• 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience focusing on power systems, DG, and microgrids
• Experience with utility interconnection requirements and generation integration
• Protection and control system design and relay coordination experience
• Experience leading design efforts on large-scale power system projects
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for distributed generation and microgrid projects across HV/MV/LV systems
• Provide expert guidance on protection, interconnection, and power quality analyses
• Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability) using ETAP/PSCAD
• Review and approve drawings, schematics, and equipment specifications
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with PM, operations, and other engineering disciplines
• Support commissioning and interconnection documentation with utilities
