Job summary

Blue Water Autonomy in Lexington, Massachusetts, is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and testing of naval power plants for autonomous ships. The role emphasizes reliability and modular generation (1–50MW) with close collaboration across design and power electronics teams.

You will own system architecture, develop 3D CAD models, apply FMECA/FMEA, and drive producibility including BOM rationalization and supplier engagement.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering hardware for complex integrated systems.
• Owner mentality from cradle to grave and understanding every aspect of operation.
• Ability to think at the vehicle level and assess system-wide impact.
• Willingness to challenge requirements and pursue correct goals.
• Hands-on experience with fittings, tubing, seals, harnessing, pumps/valves, instrumentation.
• Strong fundamentals in fluids, thermal, mechanical and electrical design.
• Clear, collaborative communicator translating field observations into design improvements.
• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support architecture and detailed design of fluid, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Partner with mechanical/electrical/software teams on sensors, controls and fault detection.
• Apply FMECA/FMEA to ensure robustness and graceful degradation.
• Create and execute development, acceptance and qualification test plans.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD of mechanical assemblies.
• Own feedback loops: capture issues, propose changes and re-test with documentation.
• Support producibility: BOM rationalization, supplier engagement, procedures, checklists.
• Coordinate with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of hardware.
