Job summary

Voya Energy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Systems Engineer to own the design, build, and test of the power system architecture for our metal-fueled generator technology. You will manage power flow between generator, battery storage, local load, and the utility grid, including a switching solution for seamless grid takeover.

The ideal candidate has hands-on engineering principles, deep expertise in hybrid inverters, and experience bringing hardware from concept to production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of industry experience in system-level power electronics.
• Direct experience with high power (25-250kW) hybrid inverters and DC-DC conversion.
• Familiarity with AC switching/transfer logic and protection coordination.
• Ability to perform worst‑case analysis and simulations (SPICE/PLECS).
• Proficiency in PCB layout with DFM focus.
• Proficiency in Altium Designer with high-current/high-voltage layout.
• 3D CAD in SolidWorks/NX/Creo; experience in PDM/PLM.
• Expert-level use of MATLAB/Simulink to simulate power stages.
• Knowledge of UL 1741 and IEEE 1547.
• Hands-on heat sink sizing, thermal management, and ruggedized packaging.
• Firmware experience in C/C++ for microcontrollers to align hardware/software.
• Experience with development testing, failure analysis, and debugging complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Rapid Development: design and bring up the Hybrid Inverter, converter, switches and BMS architectures for fast prototyping.
• Load & Grid Management: design switching logic to power onsite load from hybrid system or grid.
• Intelligent Power Flow: implement charge-and-switch logic for transitions between battery, generator, and grid.
• Practical Architecture: source components from multiple vendors to minimize lead times.
• Hardware-Mechanical Synergy: ensure electronics fit thermal constraints and rugged packaging.
• Small Team Collaboration: define requirements with software and mechanical peers.
• Testing & Validation: create test plans and perform verification and validation.
• Document system schematics and SOPs.
• Adhere to safety standards and maintain documentation and configuration mgmt.
