Job summary

GridCARE is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to lead interconnection studies and advance grid integration through AI and automation. You will mentor engineers, build study capabilities, and present results to utilities and customers, shaping planning-to-operations workflows.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in power system studies, deep expertise with interconnection processes (FERC/NERC/ISO), and strong Python skills for API automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus) or related field; MS/PhD preferred.
• 10+ years in power system studies, transmission planning, or interconnection.
• Hands-on interconnection studies experience — minimum of two years.
• Proficiency with commercial power system tools (e.g., PSSE, PSLF, PowerWorld, PSCAD, PowerGEM TARA, ASPEN).
• Strong coding skills in Python or equivalent, including APIs (psspy, simauto, pypowergem).
• Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, and ISO/RTO interconnection processes.
• Experience with utility transmission planning or interconnection teams.
• Creative, forward‑looking problem solving with bias toward action.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform and lead interconnection studies, including steady-state, short‑circuit, or dynamic analyses.
• Build out dynamics and short‑circuit duty study methodology and tooling.
• Develop power flow and stability models for new interconnections (data centers and renewables).
• Advise engineering team on study methodology and interconnection questions.
• Bridge planning and operations by translating capacity assessments into implementation plans.
• Collaborate with utilities, developers, regulators to smooth interconnection processes.
• Present study results and recommendations to utility planners and stakeholders.
• Evaluate interconnection options, system upgrades, and GETs with clear recommendations.
• Partner with AI/automation teams to streamline study processes.
• Stay updated on interconnection standards and DOE i2X, ESIG tasks.
