Job Summary

The Senior Power Systems Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and verification of high‑reliability spacecraft electrical power systems for spaceflight missions. This role focuses on power generation, storage, conversion, distribution, and protection hardware for satellite platforms.

The position is 100% onsite, located in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

  • Lead spacecraft power subsystem architecture, interface definition, and electrical design for new and existing satellite programs.
  • Oversee IRAD/CRAD efforts related to advanced power electronics, energy storage technologies, fault‑tolerant power buses, and next‑generation EPS concepts, including design, development, testing, and transition to manufacturing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continual process improvement.
  • Generate and review requirements, specifications, ICDs, analyses, power budgets, and test plans. Participate in technical reviews, address issues, and present findings to internal teams and customers.
  • Document design, analysis, and test results in technical reports and presentations.
  • Generate and maintain engineering and manufacturing documentation such as drawings, bills of materials, etc.
  • Support spacecraft and payload systems engineering, including requirements flow‑down, verification, interface definition, architectural trade studies, and complex engineering investigations.
  • Lead electrical integration and test activities for spacecraft EPS hardware, including validation of power converters, solar array interfaces, battery systems, distribution units, and protection circuits.
  • Coordinate engineering design packages with systems engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing, quality, and program management.
  • Develop and maintain system power budgets.
  • Create electrical system validation and verification plans, ensuring coverage of all requirements and interfaces.
  • Develop test plans for EPS components and assemblies, coordinating execution with Integration and Test teams.
  • Review and approve spacecraft‑level electrical test results, anomaly dispositions, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management and customers.
  • Adhere to all Quality Management Systems standards and procedures.
  • Treat all team members with respect and dignity ensuring a collaborative culture is continually developed and maintained.
  • Communicate clearly with cross‑discipline team members to validate proposed design implementations and changes.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or another relevant field) with three (3+) years of experience. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
  • High proficiency with power electronics design, including DC/DC converters, battery management systems, solar array interfaces, and spacecraft power distribution hardware.
  • Strong understanding of grounding and shielding techniques applicable to satellite and aerospace systems.
  • Proficiency in creating electrical schematics and assembly drawings using AutoCAD or comparable design tools.
  • A solid understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, architectural trade studies, architectural and interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or another relevant field).
  • Six (6) years of experience in satellite or spacecraft power system design, including electrical power systems (EPS).
  • Experience with integration of common spacecraft subsystems: power systems (Solar Arrays, Batteries), avionics assemblies, harnessing, ADCS elements, and electro-mechanical subsystems.
  • Knowledge of satellite/spacecraft system reliability, contamination control, EMI, space environments (radiation, surface charging, corrosion, etc.), and human factors.
  • Experience developing system and subsystem level acceptance plans and qualification testing of space flight hardware.
  • High quality written and oral presentation skills

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary Work – occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to carry, lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves being stationary most of the time, sometimes requiring moving about the work center on concrete surfaces.
  • Computer Work – daily use of laptop, computer monitor screen, keyboard, and mouse, sometimes utilizing a headset with microphone & speakers.

Travel Requirement

Ability to travel < 10%

Shift/Schedule

Onsite work Monday through Friday; day shift generally working 7am to 4pm
