Job summary

Verto People Ltd in Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Heat Transfer Engineer to lead mechanical and thermal design for power generation facilities, including HRSGs, boilers, heat exchangers, and cooling systems. The role requires 7+ years in mechanical/thermal design, ABET‑accredited Mechanical Engineering degree, and strong thermodynamics knowledge.

You will perform calculations, develop specs, review vendor data, and support commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical/thermal engineering design.
• Experience with power generation equipment such as heat exchangers, boilers, HRSGs, turbines, or cooling systems.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid systems.
• Familiarity with ASME, API, TEMA codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and thermal design calculations, equipment sizing, and selection for power generation facilities and power island systems.
• Develop engineering specifications and datasheets for boilers, HRSGs, condensers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, and rotating equipment.
• Interpret heat and material balances, prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), and develop and review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Undertake process simulation and hydraulic analysis using engineering tools such as Thermoflow, PIPE-FLO, Fathom, and Impulse.
• Design and specify associated piping systems, including pipe sizing, materials, valves, pressure relief equipment, and piping specialty components.
• Review equipment specifications, vendor documentation, technical bids, and engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Support power plant commissioning, startup, performance testing, and emissions-related engineering activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, provide technical guidance, and participate in client meetings and design reviews.
