Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a senior estimator to lead the development of cost estimates for complex power projects. You will oversee standards, data, and a team delivering conceptual through detailed estimates for generation, transmission, and related infrastructure.

The role requires 8+ years in estimating with 3+ years in a lead role, experience with InEight/RSMeans, and strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities. Houston-based, on-site position with cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

8+ years estimating experience, including 3+ years in a lead or supervisory role.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management preferred, but not required.
Expertise in power-industry projects (generation, T&D, substations, storage, renewables).
Proficiency with estimating systems such as InEight, Hard Dollar, RSMeans.
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of accurate, comprehensive cost estimates for power industry projects.
Oversee estimating standards, data, tools, and team performance to support planning, proposals, and decision-making.
Prepare and review conceptual through detailed estimates for major power projects.
Validate quantities, labor/equipment rates, vendor pricing, and cost assumptions.
Support proposal development, pricing strategies, and bid reviews.
Conduct estimate risk analysis and determine contingency requirements.
Present estimate results to leadership, explaining assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
Collaborate with Development, Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Construction, Scheduling, and Finance.
