Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to lead development of next-generation power electronics and VSD control solutions. You'll own control algorithms for embedded processors using MATLAB/Simulink, and work across the product lifecycle from concept to validated prototypes.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
10+ years of professional experience with power electronics and variable speed drives; 8+ years if Master's.
Strong understanding of system modeling and simulation, as well as controller design, using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
Strong understanding of power electronics and motor control.
Experience with Auto-code generation using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
Familiarity with circuit design and layout tools such as Altium.

Responsibilities

Conduct system modeling, system simulation and verification using MATLAB/Simulink with Auto-code generation.
Conduct prototype testing on hardware-in-loop system, variable speed drives and chiller to verify control performance.
Support field issue trouble shooting and control method improvements.
Maintain electronic circuit designs with embedded processors and FPGA/CPLD.
Perform worst case circuit analysis and incorporation of appropriate reliability principles to ensure reliable operation over the environmental specifications.
Assist internal customers to develop, test and support PCBA related projects.
Independently conduct and apply cost analysis to feasibility studies on proposed designs or modifications to existing designs.
Develop schedules which accurately reflect the project milestones and adhere to them.
Integrate new and modify existing processes to cover all phases of the electronic development process.
