Job summary

TAE Technologies in Southern California seeks an experienced power electronics engineer to design high-current, high-voltage power supplies from concept to completion. You will model systems, develop control algorithms, and ensure grid-connected designs meet utility requirements as part of a cutting-edge fusion research program.

The role requires 4+ years in power electronics, strong MATLAB/Simulink and Python skills, and a focus on safety and EMI/EMC considerations.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of power electronics design or modeling experience on large HV/HCI systems.
  • Topology design and modeling supporting power electronics system development.
  • Development of models and control algorithms for regulation and protection.
  • Awareness of EMI/EMC issues caused by large electrical loads and grounding.
  • Integration and connection of grid-connected systems meeting utility requirements.
  • Experience with superconducting magnets, their power supplies and protection is a plus.
  • Design of safety features ensuring equipment and personnel safety.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with emphasis on power electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of high-current and high-voltage power supplies from concept to completion.
  • Modeling of power electronics system designs and topologies to support power supply development.
  • Develop control and protection algorithms for loads and power supplies.
  • Simulate grid-connected systems to ensure compliance with utility requirements.
  • Safety engineering for HV and HC power supplies.
  • Liaise with vendors for equipment development and supply.
  • Manage contracts from concept to completion throughout the project life cycle.
