Job summary

Heron Power is building cutting-edge power electronics for the 21st-century grid. We seek a controls engineer to model, design, implement, and validate controllers for advanced power converters, ensuring robust performance and reliability across grid interfaces.

You will translate algorithms into embedded C, develop HiL validation, and work with hardware teams to bring-up prototypes while complying with grid-code requirements. This role offers salary and equity in a dynamic startup environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience required.
• Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and power conversion.
• Ability to write and troubleshoot C-code.
• Hands-on circuit troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate system-level requirements and translate to dynamic performance and controls specs.
• Model candidate converter topologies and architectures with hardware team to evaluate trade-offs.
• Design controller architecture to meet dynamic objectives.
• Perform FMEA to identify weaknesses and mitigation strategies.
• Analyze grid-code requirements (IEEE 2800, UL1741) and protection schemes.
• Capture controller design in Matlab/Simulink and translate algorithms to embedded C.
• Create HiL setups for validation and prototype bring-up.
• Review schematics to ensure signal acquisition handles transients.
