Job summary

Anduril Industries in Costa Mesa, CA seeks a Principal Power Controls Engineer to own control architectures for DC/DC, DC/AC converters and motor drives using discrete SiC/GaN devices. You will model, simulate, and validate control loops from concept to hardware validation, collaborating with firmware and power hardware engineers.

The role requires deep expertise in control theory and experience with Simulink/PLECS, HIL/PHIL testing, and aerospace-grade standards.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering required.
• 15+ years designing and tuning digital control loops for power electronic converters.
• Proficiency in Simulink and/or PLECS for control modeling and analysis.
• Strong foundation in control theory (z-domain/s-domain, bode, state-space).
• Experience with discrete SiC and GaN FET-based power stages in multi-kW range.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-461/464/810/DO-160 aerospace standards.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, simulate, and validate closed-loop control algorithms for switch-mode power converters and inverters using Simulink and/or PLECS.
• Develop plant models and controller architectures for multi-kW power stages with SiC/GaN devices.
• Conduct stability analysis, loop shaping, and compensator design to meet transient, efficiency, and EMI targets.
• Collaborate with power hardware engineers on gate drive tuning and switching-loss characterization.
• Support model-based code generation and translate designs into embedded implementations.
• Define hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) test plans.
• Contribute to topology, modulation, and control bandwidth trade studies.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace environments and standards.
