Job summary

Brooksource seeks a Senior Power BI Developer to partner with our Energy Trading and Risk Management team. You will translate complex commercial, operational, financial, and risk-management needs into trusted Power BI solutions, combining report-development expertise with business acumen and executive-level communication.

The role requires collaboration with database, data architecture, and business teams to deliver enterprise-grade analytics across trading, risk, finance, and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in information systems, CS, analytics, finance, economics, math or related field.
• Typically 10+ years of BI/analytics experience, including 4+ years Power BI development.
• Advanced Power BI skills: DAX, Power Query, semantic modeling, report design, drill-through, bookmarks, navigation, accessibility, performance optimization.
• Strong SQL skills; experience with SQL Server and/or Snowflake preferred.
• Ability to communicate with leadership and translate requirements into actionable solutions.
• Strong business acumen and analytical judgment connecting data to business outcomes.
• Proven ability to collaborate across technical and functional teams.
• Experience with data modeling, data quality validation, security concepts, and BI development standards.
• Ability to manage priorities, communicate risks, and deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Engage leadership and end users to understand objectives, define requirements, and establish measurable success criteria.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, and analytics applications.
• Create structured semantic models using star-schema principles and reusable measures.
• Develop efficient DAX measures and Power Query transformations focusing on accuracy and performance.
• Partner with database and data engineering teams to define source data requirements and improve data pipelines.
• Translate complex ETRM data into insights on positions, exposures, P&L, risk, and settlements.
• Lead workshops, design reviews, demonstrations, testing, and production-readiness activities.
• Present findings and tradeoffs to senior leadership and diverse audiences.
• Implement security and governance practices, including workspace standards and data lineage.
• Monitor adoption, data accuracy, and report performance; resolve defects.
• Establish development standards and contribute to peer reviews and release management.
• Identify opportunities to simplify reporting and automate analysis.
