Job summary

7-Eleven, Inc is seeking a Principal Architect for the Store Technology group to lead the technical architecture for POS and store platforms. You will drive the architecture roadmap, design scalable solutions, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product, security, and operations teams.

You will remain hands-on, prototype solutions, and ensure secure, resilient delivery with modern cloud-native practices and strong emphasis on data, performance, and observability across a high-volume

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software engineering with architecture/leadership on enterprise-scale systems.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices, event-driven design, and security.
• Hands-on coding ability in POS-like or transactional environments and strong API/data modeling skills.
• Experience designing high-volume, low-latency, highly available systems with offline support.
• Strong cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, IaC, containerization, observability, and production operations experience.
• Quality engineering, testing strategies, and secure software development practices.
• Ability to modernize legacy systems to cloud-native services with minimal disruption.
• Effective documentation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and architecture roadmap for POS applications and store tech platforms.
• Remain hands-on with production-quality code, prototyping, and critical implementation work.
• Translate business needs into designs, specs, architecture decisions, and delivery plans.
• Evolve architecture patterns for APIs, data access, messaging, and store-to-cloud work.
• Lead reviews, set standards, and guide teams to improve quality and maintainability.
• Design transaction-oriented, resilient systems with strong security and availability.
• Evaluate technologies and vendor solutions; perform TB0 analysis and benchmarks.
• Modernize legacy POS and store systems toward cloud-native services.
• Embed security controls, threat modeling, and compliant governance into solutions.
• Drive CI/CD, IaC, containerization, automated testing, and release engineering.
• Diagnose incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and improve monitoring and observability.
• Mentor engineers, produce architecture docs, runbooks, and release plans.
• Communicate options, risks, and trade-offs to leadership and engineers.
• Foster KPI-driven engineering culture and data-driven prioritization.
