Job summary

Founders First Capital Partners seeks a Portfolio Specialist / Senior Underwriting Associate in San Diego, CA. The role combines portfolio management and credit underwriting to oversee the existing loan portfolio and evaluate new small‑business investments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or related field.
• 5–10 years of direct commercial or small-business loan underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated experience preparing comprehensive credit memoranda and analyzing financial statements.
• Strong financial modeling and Excel skills, with DSCR, leverage, liquidity analysis.
• Ability to interpret income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements, and tax returns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple borrower relationships, underwriting assignments, and deadlines.
• Sound credit judgment and ability to escalate issues when needed.
• Experience underwriting loans of $250,000 or greater (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Monitor financial and operating performance of portfolio companies.
• Review borrower financials, bank activity, payment performance, and key indicators.
• Track payments, covenants, docs, and reporting obligations.
• Identify early warning signs and escalate deteriorating credits to leadership.
• Maintain strong relationships with portfolio company leadership.
• Own annual and periodic portfolio reviews and adjust risk ratings.
• Monitor late payments at borrower and portfolio levels.
• Maintain accurate electronic borrower and loan files.
• Support loan modifications, restructurings, renewals, and payoffs.
• Prepare portfolio performance reports and dashboards for leadership and investors.
• Collaborate with teams across investment, advisory, finance, servicing, and legal/compliance.
