Job summary

NPR is hiring a Senior Manager, Policy and Representation to monitor legislative and regulatory developments, build a robust Capitol Hill network, and lead NPR's policy advocacy with federal agencies, while coordinating with communications teams to inform stakeholders.

The role requires nonpartisan advocacy experience, strong writing and verbal skills, and a bachelor’s degree in public policy or related field. Hybrid work in DC region with an emphasis on integrity and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Excellent skills in tracking legislative and policy developments in copyright, AI, telecommunications or privacy.
  • Existing professional networks on Capitol Hill, particularly in telecommunications or AI policy.
  • Experience navigating the legislative process and working on nonpartisan advocacy initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for external policy-related communications.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google suite products.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborative, with experience in small teams and independent work.

Responsibilities

  • Track, analyze, and brief internal leadership on legislative, regulatory, and industry developments impacting NPR.
  • Build and maintain a political network across Capitol Hill and federal agencies; manage LDA compliance.
  • Meet with Hill staff to educate them on NPR and its role in public radio.
  • Conduct in-depth research on Members of Congress and officials to develop advocacy strategies.
  • Represent NPR with federal regulatory bodies and monitor FCC proceedings.
  • Build relationships with associations and national stakeholders to advocate NPR policy positions.
  • Research upcoming congressional events and policy announcements to inform NPR leadership.
  • Collaborate with Communications & Engagement on policy stakeholder communications.
