Job summary

NPR seeks a Senior Manager, Policy and Representation in Washington, D.C. to lead outward-facing policy work, build relationships across Capitol Hill and federal agencies, and ensure NPR’s positions are accurately represented.

The role tracks copyright, AI, telecoms and privacy developments, conducts research on Members and officials, and collaborates with Communications & Engagement on policy communications. Hybrid work in DC with an in-office requirement.

Qualifications

  • Excellent skills in tracking legislative and policy developments with experience in copyright, AI, telecommunications or privacy policy.
  • Existing professional networks on Capitol Hill, particularly in telecommunications or AI policy.
  • Experience navigating the legislative process and working on nonpartisan advocacy initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborative working style and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Track, analyze, and brief internal leadership on legislative, regulatory, and industry developments impacting NPR, including copyright, AI, telecommunications, and privacy policy.
  • Build and maintain a sophisticated political network across Capitol Hill and federal agencies, serving as a registered lobbyist; manage LDA compliance activities pertaining to NPR.
  • Meet with Hill staff and relevant Committees to educate them on NPR and its role in the public radio system.
  • Conduct in-depth research on Members of Congress and executive branch officials to develop effective policy strategies.
  • Lead NPR’s representation with federal regulatory bodies, including the FCC, monitoring developments and coordinating responses to proceedings affecting public radio.
  • Proactively build relationships with associations and national stakeholders that engage on NPR policy matters; represent NPR perspectives at the national level.
  • Research upcoming congressional events and policy announcements to keep NPR leadership informed.
  • Collaborate with the NPR Sr. Manager for Communications & Engagement on policy stakeholder communications.
