Qualifications

• Must possess a current Master or Journeyman plumber's license issued by the Michigan State Board of Plumbing or by a state approved agency.
• Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
• Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
• Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
• Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's license and the required plumbing license/certification.
• AS ASE 5110/5130 backflow certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

• Plans, installation by studying blueprints and work sketches to determine plumbing materials needed for the most economical job.
• Reviews existing and proposed plumbing plans and details.
• Coordinates with community representatives as required including plumbing permits.
• Lays out, installs, inspects, and repairs complete plumbing systems throughout County facilities.
• Cuts pipe, using threading machine, as required for assigned projects.
• Joins piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
• Cuts or bores through walls, ceilings or partitions for installations.
• Performs difficult plumbing/piping for repairs and modernization projects.
• Reviews job orders and specifications to estimate hours, materials, tools, and equipment.
• Plans, coordinates, and reviews the work of lower-level maintenance employees.
• Orders, stores and controls materials, tools, and equipment.
• Maintains records relative to materials and hours for projects.
• Advises supervisors on repairs for emergency maintenance.
• Assists supervisor in inspection of facilities for repairs.
• Uses Countywide/software to manage assignments.

Education

Master or Journeyman plumber license

Valid United States driver license

Plumber license/exam passage requirement

Six-month probation completion

Master or Journeyman Plumber license/certification (DOL or state agency)

ASBO 5110/5130 backflow certifications
