Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Plumbing Engineer for our Chicago office to design plumbing and fire protection systems across multiple market sectors. You will develop Revit models for DD and construction documents, perform code analyses, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires 8+ years of relevant experience, a PE license is preferred, and proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, and Navisworks is expected. Flexible work options and a strong growth culture are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering is required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience designing and specifying plumbing and fire-protection systems.
• Familiarity with UPC, IPC, IBC, ASPE standards; LEED Water Efficiency, NFPA and related codes.
• Experience designing varied building types (offices, hotels, data centers, labs, high-rises).
• Proficiency in Revit for 3D design drawings and DD/Construction documents.
• Strong communication and collaboration within cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Design plumbing and fire protection systems for diverse building types; prepare plumbing schedules, floor plans, and riser diagrams.
• Create SD package sketches and narratives; develop Revit models for DD and construction documents.
• Perform system design calculations and code analyses; maintain design records.
• Specify equipment for building systems and develop project-specific specifications.
• Prepare written reports and present design alternatives to clients and project teams.
• Coordinate with engineers across disciplines and with city officials as needed.
• Incorporate sustainable design strategies per client needs and project goals.
• Support construction administration through site visits, RFIs, submittal reviews, and observations.
• Mentor junior plumbing engineers and designers within the team.
• Assist with project delivery coordination and client communications.
