Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Platform Software Engineer for the Advanced EO/IR Systems (AES) team in McKinney, TX. The role focuses on designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining platform software for advanced surveillance and targeting systems.

You will collaborate with cybersecurity, software, and systems teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant deployments onsite in McKinney. A Secret DoD clearance is required for day‑1 eligibility.

Qualifications

• Requires STEM degree with 5 years of relevant engineering experience; advanced degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• CompTIA Security+ certification required.
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (7.x/8.x) including system administration, patching and security.
• Scripting in Bash and Python; Linux networking and virtualization.
• Experience with Git, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Jira and CI/CD tooling (Jenkins or GitLab).
• IaC and containerized environments using Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, Kickstart, Chef; platform provisioning and deployments.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Platform Software Engineer to join our Advanced EO/IR Systems (AES) team in McKinney, TX, which is part of our Advanced Products & Solutions group.

What You Will Do

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and implement solutions to optimize infrastructure operations for the AES Product Family.
• Analyze and identify requirements for new or existing computer, server, peripheral, network, and telecommunications systems, considering specialized technology needs.
• Design, implement, code, test, document, and support systems integration for mission‑critical advanced surveillance and targeting system solutions.
• Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to ensure all security controls are met.
• Work alongside software engineers, systems engineers, and implementation teams to ensure performance and deployment compliance.
• This job is onsite in McKinney, TX; local residency or relocation required.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant engineering experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for an additional 2 years of experience.
• CompTIA Security+ certification required
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (7.x/8.x) including:
• Software and hardware installation and maintenance
• System administration tasks such as patching, RPM packaging, performance tuning, networking, LDAP user management, and security
• Securing and hardening RHEL systems per STIG requirements
• Scripting with Bash and Python
• Linux virtualization (KVM), Linux networking (creating virtual NICs, implementing forwarding rules, bridging interfaces), and general networking capabilities
• Experience with developer tools including Git, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Jira, and CI/CD tools (Jenkins or GitLab).
• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and containerized environments using Ansible, Kickstart, Terraform, Chef, Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes to standardize and automate platform provisioning and deployments.
