Job summary

General Motors is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to work on display solutions for high-performance SoC platforms. The role focuses on embedded Linux, device drivers, and display hardware, collaborating with software services, hardware teams, and SoC vendors to build a shared vehicle compute platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Experience with Linux-based embedded operating systems.
• Experience developing or integrating display software, device drivers, or display hardware.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Solid understanding of embedded hardware architectures, including processors, memory management, and peripherals.
• Knowledge of communication protocols, including Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART.
• Solid understanding of Linux kernel frameworks, including DRM/KMS, DMA, V4L2, and device trees.
• Experience deploying commercial embedded systems.
• Familiarity with ARM architectures.
• Experience with bring-up, validation, and system-level testing of SoCs and display hardware.
• Experience working with display interfaces such as DisplayPort, HDMI, or MIPI DSI is preferred.
• Experience in automotive or safety-critical software development is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software and device drivers for automotive display systems.
• Develop software features on Linux to control the powering, configuration, and activation of display devices and processes.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and integration.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and system architects, to ensure seamless integration of display software with hardware.
• Collaborate with other engineers to optimize performance, memory usage, startup time, and power efficiency for high-performance embedded systems.
• Contribute to the development of production-quality software by applying best practices for embedded software development in automotive and other safety-critical domains.

The Display Software team is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to work on display solutions for high-compute System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in embedded systems design and development, particularly with Linux-based display systems, device drivers, and display hardware. The candidate will work with engineering teams across software services, hardware teams, and SoC vendors to build and manage a shared vehicle compute platform.

What You’ll Do

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
