Job summary

AT&T in Alpharetta, GA seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to lead reliability, security, and modernization of enterprise platforms and cloud services. You will design, architect, and evolve scalable, observable solutions, guiding cross-functional teams and driving automation across CI/CD, governance, and platform lifecycle.

You will mentor senior engineers, shape migration roadmaps, and own disaster recovery strategies while ensuring compliance and operational excellence across cloud and on‑prem

Qualifications

• Deep experience designing, operating, and governing enterprise-scale platforms and cloud infrastructure.
• 7+ years in cloud platforms, infrastructure services, platform engineering, and governance.
• Experience with containerized workloads, orchestration, microservices, and cloud deployment patterns.
• Strong CI/CD, release automation, artifact management, and infrastructure automation knowledge.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, service health, and observability strategies.
• Knowledge of security controls, access governance, and compliance practices.
• Experience with platform upgrades, disaster recovery, and resiliency improvements.
• Strong troubleshooting across infrastructure, applications, integrations, networking, and workflows.
• Ability to define SOPs, runbooks, playbooks, and support readiness.
• Working knowledge of cost optimization, capacity planning, licensing, and lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical leader and platform steward for enterprise platforms and cloud services.
• Define platform strategy, architecture alignment, and modernization roadmaps.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives across Engineering, Ops, Architecture, Security, and Stakeholders.
• Establish standards, automation principles, and governance models for platforms.
• Own platform reliability, scalability, resiliency, and business-continuity posture.
• Drive compliance, cybersecurity, access governance, risk management, and audit-readiness.
• Advance automation-first approaches across infrastructure, deployments, and workflows.
• Provide governance for CI/CD, release standards, and deployment maturity.
• Lead observability, monitoring, alerting, logging, and service health strategies.
• Act as escalation point for complex issues and major incidents.
• Guide root cause analysis, problem management, and corrective actions.
• Influence capacity planning, cloud cost optimization, and technology lifecycle management.
• Own disaster recovery strategy, planning, and exercises.
• Mentor engineers and raise the organization’s engineering maturity.
• Influence decisions through alignment and clear tradeoffs.
